Tigers' Sheffield has shoulder surgery

10/09/2007 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Detroit Tigers announced Gary Sheffield underwent successful surgery on his right shoulder Monday in Miami.

The arthroscopic procedure, performed by Dr. John Uribe, was needed to fix a tear in the labrum of the shoulder. The doctor also performed a debridement of the AC joint and cleaned up bad tissue.

Sheffield will wear a sling for a month before starting a rehab program. He is expected to be ready for the start of next season.

The 38-year-old hit .265 with 25 home runs and 75 RBI for the Tigers this season.
