01/29/2010 - La Jolla, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - John Daly has been struggling with his golf game for several years now. Despite having lap-band surgery and losing more than 100 pounds, Daly's golf game has not improved.
After shooting a one-under 71 on Friday, Daly told The Golf Channel that he was, "Done with golf." The quote was to a producer who was filming Daly for part of the network's show called "Bring John Daly."
Daly's only comments were to The Golf Channel as he did not visit the press room after missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open by eight strokes.
Last season, Daly played all four rounds in just two PGA Tour events after playing all four rounds in only four PGA Tour tournaments in 2008.
In the last two seasons and his first two starts this year, Daly has missed the cut in 14 of his 25 PGA Tour starts. He made the cut, but did not play the final round two other times in that span.
Later in his interview, Daly said, "I can't keep taking spots from guys out here playing this bad."
Daly burst onto the scene in 1991 when, after getting into the PGA Championship despite being the ninth alternate, he walked off with the Wanamaker Trophy. He later won the British Open to give him two major titles among his five PGA Tour victories.
He was suspended for much of the 2009 PGA Tour season and headed to Europe to try to find his game. He competed 10 times on the European Tour last year. Daly made the cut in four of those 10 starts, but his last made cut came in May.
His last PGA Tour title was in 2004 at this week's event, which was then known as the Buick Invitational.
No one knows for sure if this is the end for Daly. He has committed to play at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in two weeks. When asked if he would play, Daly told The Golf Channel, "No, I'm not going to take that spot away from anybody either."
